Former Pakistan batsman Basit Ali, who is the current chief of junior selection committee, is likely to be offered the national team's batting consultant role for the upcoming World T20 to be played in India.
Basit, who appeared in 19 Tests and 50 ODIs for Pakistan, is expected to be added in the team management rather than replacing anyone for the T20 pinnacle event.
According to the Express Tribune, Basit would also meet Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan with an aim to discuss the strategies needed to improve the performance of the national squad for the World T20.
Although the 45-year-old was one the most successful coaches at the domestic level, he still has to serve at the highest level.
The former Test skipper had also led his side Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) to Quaid-e-Azam Trophy on multiple occasions, including in 2015-2016 edition.
Pakistan, which displayed a disappointing performance in the recently-concluded Asia Cup, will play their opening World T20 match against the hosts in Dharamsala on March 19.
