BCCI ignoring recommendations, Lodha panel to file status report in SC

In the wake of defiant stand of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over the implementation of Lodha panel recommendations, the Justice R.M Lodha-led committee on Monday decided to submit a report to the Supreme Court about the impediments by the country's cricket board.

The decision was taken in the Lodha committee meeting, which was scheduled to discuss a number of issues, including the ones where the BCCI had faltered in implementing the reforms in accordance to the orders given by the apex court.

Reflecting on the reasons behind the submission of the report, Justice Lodha informed that the committee found impediments in the implementations of the court order by the Anurag Thakur-led board.

"We are submitting the status report because the committee finds that there are impediments. As per Supreme Court order if there are any impediments in implementation of the court order the committee may submit the status report," Justice Lodha said.

Earlier, the BCCI, while defying the panel recommendations, appointed MSK Prasad as the chairman of the senior selection committee, and Sarandeep Singh, Jatin Paranjpe, Devang Gandhi and Gagan Khoda as its members.

The Lodha committee, however, recommended that the senior selection committee can only have three members, and they must be former Test players.

Earlier in a landmark judgement on July 18, the Supreme Court accepted major recommendations of Justice R.M. Lodha-led panel on structural reforms in the BCCI.

The apex court had given six months time to the BCCI to implement the recommendations.
