Osama Bin Laden's former bodyguard Nasser al-Bahri has died after a long illness, medical sources in Yemen confirmed.

According to The Daily Star, Bahri, a Yemeni national, was believed to be in his 40s when he passed away on Saturday in a hospital in the southern city of Mukalla.

Bahri, also known as Abu Jandal, was Bin Laden's driver in Afghanistan.

He was released from Guantanamo Bay and returned to Yemen in 2008.

He was involved in attacks by Islamist militants in Bosnia, Somalia and Afghanistan during the 1990s, but later renounced al-Qaeda.
