BJP critical of Kejriwal's resignation, says 'he was seeking an exit route'

Criticizing Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal for resigning as Delhi Chief Minister over the failure to introduce the Jan Lokpal Bill in the Assembly session, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday claimed that Kejriwal was seeking an exit route since the day he assumed office.

"He knew he could never fulfill all his tall promises. Therefore he was seeking alibi and seeking an exit route from day one. Kejriwal could never graduate from being an agitator to being an administrator. He cannot govern," BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

"Therefore all the allegations against Narendra Modi are totally baseless, malicious, and I condemn it. No Ambani is behind Narendra Modi. People of India are behind him," he added.

Prasad further said that the BJP was fully committed to pass the Jan Lokpal Bill, if it fulfilled all the required procedures.

"No heaven would have fallen if in two three days time the procedural compliance would have been done, and Jan Lopal Bill would have been passed next week. The BJP was committed to support it. Kejriwal just wanted an exit route. He escaped from shouldering responsibility because he knew he cannot fulfill," he said.

"Now he is seeking to become the prime minister. It is for the people of the country to decide whether they want a stable government with a decisive leader, with a proven governance record, who is only Narendra Modi," he added.

Earlier on Friday, Kejriwal resigned as Delhi Chief Minister after the Assembly session was adjourned sine die following protests by the opposition over the Jan Lokpal Bill.

"Today Jan Lokpal Bill was not allowed to be introduced, BJP and Congress united to oppose it. Their true faces have been brought in front of all of us," he said to the AAP supporters who had gathered outside the party office here today.

"I did not come here for power. And today our Government has tendered its resignation. And I will consider myself fortunate if I have to sacrifice my life for the country. We had a Cabinet meeting right now, and it was decided that our government will resign," he added.

Kejriwal also said that the Delhi Assembly should be immediately dissolved, and demanded for re-elections in the state.

He further claimed the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for blocking the Bill in the House, in retaliation to the FIR filed by the Delhi Government against Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani over gas prices.
