A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation met West Bengal Governor K .N. Tripathi here on Friday and expressed resentment over the state administration's refusal to allow its fact-finding team to visit violence-hit Makra village in Birbhum district.

The Bharatiya Janata Party's West Bengal chief Rahul Sinha, who led the delegation to the Governor, charged the state police with committing atrocities in regions where Section 144 has been imposed.

Sinha alleged that West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee does not trust the state police.

"I want to tell you that the Chief Minister of Bengal does not trust the state police. The Chief Minister is asking for security from the Centre, even now she is being guarded by the central security forces. When the Chief Minster doesn't trust the state police then how can people trust them?" he told the media here after meeting the West Bengal Governor.

Sinha further said the BJP delegation has complained to the Governor against the police for not allowing its fact-finding team to visit the violence hit areas.

"Today we met the Governor of West Bengal to tell him that the police has misbehaved with our parliamentary board members and did not allow our team to visit the affected villages," he said, and added that the BJP delegation has urged the Governor to visit the affected villages and save the people there.

Earlier on Thursday, the members of the BJP's fact-finding team on the attacks on party leaders in Birbhum were arrested and then released on bail. The BJP's fact-finding team comprising of party vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Members of Parliament Kirti Azad and Udit Raj were detained by the West Bengal Police for attempting to enter Makra village in Birbhum district.

The team, which has been formed by BJP chief Amit Shah, was to submit its report to the central leadership after returning to New Delhi.

Earlier this week, three people were killed when the TMC and BJP supporters allegedly clashed in a village in Birbhum district.
