BJP lauds AAP debut performance, but confident of sweeping all four states

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad on Sunday appreciated political debutant Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP's) performance in the assembly polls, but maintained that the saffron outfit would sweep all four states.

"There is a close fight in Chhattisgarh. Raman Singh has a good track record. And we will win in all four states. We are already close to one-sided victorious in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan," he said.

"As far as Delhi is concerned, I appreciate the fact that AAP has performed really well in their debut polls, but despite this, if people are trying to get us the majority, it is a victory for us. All the party workers have done extremely good work," he added.

He further said that people have accepted BJP prime ministerial aspirant Narendra Modi as their leader.

Latest trends in Rajasthan show that the BJP is ahead in 104 seats, while Congress is leading in 28 seats. In Madhya Pradesh, BJP is ahead in 135 seats, while the Congress leading in 59 seats. In Delhi, newcomer AAP is leading in 23 seats, while the BJP is ahead in 31 seats and the Congress in 8 seats. In Chhattisgarh, BJP is ahead in 45 seats while the Congress is leading in 41 seats. The results in these four states have begun to trickle in.

The counting of votes in four states began here this morning amidst tight security and elaborate arrangements made by the Election Commission.

The votes will decide the fate of contesting candidates in Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh where assembly elections were held between November 11 and December 4.

Three time Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has forwarded her resignation to the Lt. Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung, finally accepting that her Congress Party has lost the assembly polls in the national capital.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) continues to be in the lead in the polls and is more or less certain of returning to power in Delhi after 15 years.

However, the BJP may have to share the responsibility of governance of the Delhi with the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
