Robert De Niro will take the helm the musical version of 'Bronx Tale,' the film he had starred in back in 1993.

The stage musical is set against the backdrop of organised crime and racial tension in 1960s New York and will air in 2016, the BBC reported.

The project, which will be co-directed by Jerry Zaks with music by multiple Oscar-winner Alan Menken, will make its world premiere at the Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey in February.
