BSF seizes gold biscuit worth Rs. 35 lakhs in Nadia district of Bengal

Border Security Force (BSF) seized gold biscuits worth 35 lakhs during a routine patrolling along India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal while the smugglers managed to escape.

The incident took place at Banpur border post area in Nadia district of the state when a Border Security Force (BSF) patrol seized the consignment which was supposed to have been taken across the border.

The Deputy Inspector-General of India's Border Security Force (BSF) in Krishnagar sector, Pushpendra Singh Rathore, said security personnel the suspected men from India and Bangladesh are absconding after they were hit by stones.

"Indian security personnel saw two men who were hiding behind the bushes near the fencing along the border on Bangladesh side. The security personnel became alert. As soon as they moved ahead, the suspected men threw two-three packets and the security personnel immediately saw them. The personnel hit them with stones. The suspected men ran away towards Bangladesh side and they also hit the men from Banpur village with stones," said Rathore.

Rathore also said that gold biscuits weighing 1.16 kgs were found in a polythene bag.

"The security personnel found a packet which was quite heavy. When they checked properly they found that it was filled with gold," Rathore said.

So far, gold worth millions has been seized by the BSF from different parts of the state in 2014 and around seven smugglers have been apprehended.
