Welsh side Cardiff City has been relegated from the Premier League after a single season following a 3-0 defeat by Newcastle United at St.James Park on Saturday.
Cardiff has been sent back to the Championship while Newcastle, who had lost their previous six games, saw a sizeable number of their fans walk out after 69 minutes in protest at the running of the club.
According to the BBC, Newcastle took the lead through Shola Ameobi's first-half header and sealed their fate with late goals from Loic Remy and Steven Taylor.
Newcastle's poor recent form was partly behind the open mutiny from their fans, but the supporters who stayed until the end were able to celebrate what turned out to be a comfortable victory, the report added.
