Class 11 student arrested for Facebook post: SC seeks explanation from UP Police

The Supreme Court will today hear a plea seeking an explanation from the Uttar Pradesh Police for the arrest of a Class 11 student over a Facebook post.

The student, who studies in a Bareilly school, had allegedly posted objectionable comments against Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, leading to his arrest.

He was booked by the Rampur police under Section 66A of the Information Technology Act and for breach of peace.

Meanwhile, the student has been released on bail against two sureties of Rs 20,000 after a local court sent him to 14 day judicial custody.
