Congress alleges Modi violated Model Code of Conduct

The Congress party on Monday complained to the Election Commission against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi alleging that he violated the Model Code of Conduct by urging people to vote in large numbers on the final day of polling.

"We have complained against Modi to Election Commission that the Election Commission should take note of Modi's deliberate and planned violation of model code of conduct," said Congress spokesmen Shakeel Ahmed.

He also said that the party will not be participating in discussion during the exit polls and added that they will be proved again just like during 2004 and 2009 elections.

"In keeping with our tradition, we won't participate in these exit polls. The last time, exit polls gave us 68 seats less than what we got. We will have great results and all of you will be surprised," he said.

He also sought to suggest that Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi will not be solely blamed if the party performs poorly in the elections.

"Rahul Gandhi is not in the government. He is the number two leader in the party. Sonia Gandhi is the president and naturally there is local leadership. So it is all collective and all of us should be accountable," said Ahmed.
