Congress MLA A.M Khan on Thursday created a ruckus during an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) press conference, by alleging that it was betraying the people of Delhi by not probing the Batla House encounter, as they had promised to do in their manifesto.
"In the Okhla assembly constituency, they had written a hand bill saying that when they would come to power, they will set up an enquiry to probe the Batla house encounter, but now, they are wavering from their word," claimed Khan.
"He (Kejriwal) has misled the people of Okhla just the way they have misled the people of the country. They had mentioned it in their manifesto, and they have betrayed the trust of Muslims by not doing it," he said.
"They used to keep saying that the Congress has been using Muslims for years, but, why are they differentiating between them today? Even if I am chucked out of the party, I will not support this man, as these people are cheats and liars," he added.
On 30th July last year, a Delhi court had awarded life sentence to Shahzad Ahmed, who was convicted in connection with the controversial 2008 Batla house encounter case. Additionally, the court has asked the alleged Indian Mujahideen operative to pay a fine of Rs. 90,000.
Shahzad was held guilty of murdering police inspector M C Sharma and assaulting other police officers.
The encounter had taken place in flat, number L-18 of the Batla House in the Jamia Nagar locality here on September 19, 2008, six days after serial bomb blasts that rocked Delhi, killing 26 people and injuring 133.
Acting on a tip-off on some terrorists involved in the blasts, the police team led by Inspector Sharma went to Batla House on September 19. Sharma was killed during the encounter.
