Court rejects bail petitions of five suspects in B'desh's Sholakia attack

A Kishoreganj court on Wednesday rejected bail petitions of five suspects arrested in connection with Sholakia Eidgah attack on the Eid day on July 7.

The court of Chief judicial Magistrate Abdus Salam Khan also sent the suspects to jail as they were produced before the court, reports the Daily Star.

A sub-inspector of the local police station, Md Aminul Islam said the five suspects were arrested from different areas of Kishoreganj town after the Sholakia attack on Eid day and that police are interrogating them.

The suspects were identified as Mamunur Rashid alias Mamun, 28, son of Mosharraf Hossain of Taika area in Karimganj upazila, Md Sohel Miah, 20, son of Md Shamsuddin of Sultanpur area in Bajitpur upazila, Ariful Islam Hashib, 32, son of late Shahbubul Islam of Paschim Tarapasha and Mohammad Asanullah, 23, son of Abdul Hye of Boila Tarapasha in sadar upazila of Kishoreganj while Md Tara Miah, 58, son of Char Begsabad Kulakuli of Roypura upazila of Narsingdi district.

On July 7, two police constables were killed while several people were injured as the gang, comprising of seven to eight people armed with explosives, machetes and firearms, battled with law enforcers for more than an hour.

A woman and a suspected attacker also died during the fight after attackers tried to cross the police checkpoint near the school in an attempt to reach the Eidgah.
