Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D Raja on Friday called for a thorough investigation of the role of all the accused parties in the Aircel-Maxis deal. His statements came in light of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) reportedly probing former Finance Minister P Chidambaram's role in the scam.
"The CBI should investigate every piece of new evidence which comes up. The case is being monitored by the Supreme Court. They should question everybody, whosoever the person is and at whichever position he is. The fact should be established," said Raja. The country should not incur losses. We have seen ministers being arrested in these cases. Based on the new facts, the CBI should question everybody involved," he added.
According to media reports, the CBI has probed Chidambaram's role in permitting foreign investment by an overseas firm, as recorded in the chargesheet for the Aircel-Maxis deal.
In the Aircel-Maxis case, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader Dayanidhi Maran has been accused of helping Malaysian firm Maxis Group force telecom promoter C Sivasankaran to sell his stake in Aircel.
