Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has insisted that he might leave the club at the end of his three-year contract to keep the promise he made to his wife.

The Dutchman, whose contract is going to end in 2017 at Old Trafford, said that he and his wife don't have many more years together and he had promised his wife that he would stay with her, the BBC reported.

He said that he had promised his wife, Truus, when they both met, that he would retire at the age of 55.

The Premier League giant's boss, who is turning 64 next week, added that he now wanted to enjoy his relationship with his wife and has no plans of earning any more money.

Content Van Gaal said that he had done everything in his career as a manager and now wants to enjoy his remaining life.

Van Gaal's first wife, Fernanda, had died in 1994 from cancer.
