Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed a four-tier security measure at the Central Shaheed Minar and in surrounding areas ahead of the International Mother Language Day on February 21.
The Daily Star quoted DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah, as saying at a press briefing that 8,000 uniformed policemen and 1,000 plainclothes detectives will be deployed in these areas.
He also said that vehicular movement would be restricted, and that the route between Shahbagh and Shaheed Minar will be under CCTV camera surveillance.
Commissioner Miah said that the general public will be allowed to march towards Shaheed Minar to offer tributes after 12.45 a.m. after President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, cabinet members and foreign diplomats leave the premises.
