Election Commission Chief V.S Sampath on Thursday urged people to vote as the third phase of elections began.
Sampath said it was a big day for the democracy.
"Every poll day for us is a big day. It is a big day for the democracy of the country. This is the occasion when people. We request the entire electorate in the country to come forward and exercise their franchise," he said in New Delhi after voting.
Local administration also made elaborate arrangements to prevent any untoward incident.
"I and all my officials are in the field since 5.30 in the morning (IST). Everybody is geared up and on his job," said district magistrate of Saharanpur district, Sandhya Tiwari.
