The Election Commission has issued a notice to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seeking explanation over their newspaper advertisement yesterday on beef.
Additional Chief Electoral Officer R. Laxmanan said that a notice was served to Bihar BJP chief Mangal Pandey yesterday.
Earlier, the Election Commission directed that no advertisements shall be published in the poll-bound Bihar unless its contents were ratified by the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) at the state and district level.
Election Commission's directions came after the BJP gave an advertisement in newspapers featuring a woman hugging a cow, attacking Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on his silence over statements made by his allies on beef.
