The Election Commission on Thursday sent notice to the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on writ petition alleging that the party deposited huge amount of cash in its account post demonetisation.

The poll panel also sought party's reply by March 15.

Such allegations were levelled against the BSP supremo Mayawati earlier also but she refuted it while justifying that it was party's money which they received in the form of donation.

Earlier in December last year, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) detected cash deposits totalling over Rs. 104 crore in an account belonging to Mayawati-led party.

Of total amount, Rs. 102 crore was deposited in Rs. 1,000 notes while the remaining amount was in the old Rs. 500 notes.

The Enforcement Directorate also detected Rs 1.43 crore in an account belonging to Mayawati's brother Anand Kumar.

As per reports, the accounts had been detected in a branch of the United Bank of India (UBI) in the national capital.

The agency reportedly sought details about the accounts from the bank and also asked the bank officials to provide CCTV footage and the KYC documents used to open the accounts.
