Dissatisfied with Riyadh's explanation of journalist Jamal Khashoggi's death, the European Union has demanded an in-depth probe into his killing.

Germany, France, and the EU have not only demanded a full investigation but are also seeking "accountability" over Khashoggi's death, reported RT.

Condemning the murder of the Saudi journalist, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said that while Riyadh's admission of the journalist's death is the "first step toward the establishment of truth", several questions still remain unanswered.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Foreign Minister Heiko Maas in a joint statement said, "The information available about events in the Istanbul consulate is inadequate."

Taking a firm stand, Maas also talked about halting arms export.

"So long as investigations are underway, so long as we don't know what happened there, there is no reason to take positive decisions on arms exports to Saudi Arabia," he said.

After two weeks of denial, Saudi Arabia's Attorney General confirmed that preliminary investigations point towards the death of Jamal Khashoggi, who went missing on October 2 after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey. The prosecutor added that his death was caused by a physical altercation which ensued in the consulate.
