The German Football Association has started a thorough investigation to find out who damaged the FIFA World Cup trophy however, the culprit continues to be at large.
According to The Daily Star, Wolfgang Niersbachsaid, President of the German Football Association (DFB) confirmed that a small piece of the World Cup trophy was chipped off. He also added that the problem is not serious and will be fixed by specialists.
However, while Germany tries to fix the trophy, FIFA has revealed that the real 8m pounds gold trophy lifted by Captain Philipp Lahm in Rio de Janeiro on July 13 was replaced with a replica later on.
Therefore, the trophy flashed by the German football team while they travelled the streets of Berlin, waving at the jubilant crowd, was a fake one.
