Exhausted Murray 'needs a break' from tennis

After Great Britain slumped to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Argentina in the dramatic Davis Cup semi-finals, world number two Andy Murray has insisted that he needs some time away from tennis following exhausting few months.

Murray had endured a non-stop summer as he reached the finals of the French Open before winning his second Wimbledon title and successful defending Olympic gold at the recently concluded Rio Olympics.

The 29-year-old had also guided defending champions Great Britain to two victories over Argentina, but was unable to inspire them to a vital win that would have seen them advance to the World Group final.

"I have played so much tennis in the last few months, I need a break and I need it now," Murray was quoted as saying by Sport24.

Murray was recently forced to go off court for treatment to his upper thigh during his 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 win over Pellato.

"I knew I was going to be in some pain this weekend and I spoke to my team about that it was going to be really hard. But my expectations were less than what I'm feeling now. I've never really had any muscle injuries before," he added.

Murray will now head to China Open, starting from October 3 in Beijing.
