Former Pakistani refugee-turned Australian leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed is reportedly inspired by the comeback of pace sensation Mitchell Johnson and wants to use it for his own return to international cricket.
Ahmed, who has played three ODIs and two Twenty20s last year, made headlines last year when Cricket Australia (CA) pushed for him to get Australian citizenship after leaving Pakistan in 2010 due to alleged death threats from the Taliban.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Ahmed has since dropped off the international radar although Johnson's return from obscurity to international stardom has inspired him to work hard and get back in the national selectors' thoughts.
The report mentioned that the left-handed pace bowler spent the Australian summer terrorising England during the Ashes and has started his South Africa tour in similar fashion despite appearing almost on the scrap heap after getting dropped in 2010 and Ahmed sees it as proof he too can return to the Australian side too.
Ahmed believes that his performances in domestic cricket will help him boost his chances for the 2015 World Cup.
