Dental implants are evolving as a popular and preferred choice of tooth replacement today, from just being a procedure that was exciting but hardly predictable, for patients looking to replace their missing teeth.
Every year brings more advancement to the field, and 2017 will be no exception. Implants of such nature encompass not only the actual implant but everything that makes them possible, including procedures like grafting and scanning, as well as all of the technologies that make dental implants possible.
According to Dr Gautam Deshpande, who is also known as one of the pioneers of CBCT technology in India, technologies in Dental healthcare and imaging continue to transform over the years and Cone beam 3d Imaging has been at the fore front of these. This product category has seen tremendous advancements in the past six years and will continue to do so. We have seen dramatic decrease in radiation exposure, improvement in image quality and software advancements. Now CBCT is moving into more of an integrated role and the ability to do detailed and precise treatment planning for dental implants along with guided dental implant surgery using CBCT data has hugely improved the success and prognosis of these treatments. The whole Dental implant surgery protocol is fully digitalized for greater accuracy through digital work flow.
Dr Deshpande, the managing director at Scadent, India's leading innovation-driven Dental Imaging solutions provider, adds that Dental implants also benefit general oral health because they do not have to be anchored to other teeth, like bridges. To opt for a Dental implant procedure, you must have healthy gums and adequate bone to support the implant. If your bone is too thin or soft and unable to support an implant, you may require a bone graft. Or if there is not enough bone height in the upper jaw or the sinuses are too close to the jaw, you may require a sinus lift. All these assessments are done by the Dental surgeon via a pre operative 3d CBCT scan.
