Fire fighters struggled to douse the raging inferno which swept through the education department building in the old secretariat complex here on Thursday
However, no casualties were reported.
Around 15 fire tenders were pressed into service to bring the fire under control.
The director of the fire service, Ghulam Hassan Bhat, said that the fire was brought under control.
"No causalities have been reported. We tried to save the adjacent wooden blocks, the houses in the rare of the complex and several other buildings. We are trying to know the cause of the fire. The situation is under control," said Bhat.
The old secretariat complex is located at Haft Chinar in Srinagar city, which is densely populated residential area.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
