Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has said that his government is monitoring the critical flood situation in three districts of the state of Assam, and added that all assistance will be provided to the over 33,000 affected villagers.
Hundreds of villages are reported to have been inundated due to the heavy monsoon and swelling up the River Brahmaputra and its tributaries.
Gogoi said: "The flood situation persists in three districts. The flood is presently affecting the lives of 33,000 villagers. What will happen tomorrow is unknown? But today, the situation is under control."
Incessant rains in neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh has resulted in the swelling of the waters of the River Brahmaputra and this has inundated 300 villages in the eight districts of Assam.
The worst affected districts were Morigaon and Dhemaji.
