India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asoke Kumar Mukerji, has said here that there is significance in the very fact that G4 nations (Brazil, Germany, India, and Japan) are meeting at the highest level.

Though accepting the fact that the G4 meeting at the summit level is very unusual, Mukerji said, "It has a message and the message is to build on what was agreed to on September 14 by the General Assembly. It coveys its own message on how the G4 believes that it can play a role in galvanising broad-base support for the outcome of the negotiations that will start in November this year."

Meanwhile, adding to it, Indian Ambassador to the United States Arun Singh said, "On the bilateral side it is clear that there has been no going back by the US from the commitment that they made when President Barak Obama had visited and articulated support for India's permanent membership of UN seat."

"Also, the joint statement issued at the end of the strategic and commercial dialogue has again reiterated, in the same manner, support for India's permanent membership for the UN Security Council."

The G4 nations support each other's bids for a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council and seek to reform it to make it more representative of the 21st century geo-political considerations.
