Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Saturday laid the foundation stone for three projects at an estimated cost of around Rs. 2,500 crore in the capital region of Andhra Pradesh.
Announcing Rs. 50,000-crore new road projects for Andhra Pradesh, Gadkari expressed his confidence that with the Centre's cooperation, Andhra Pradesh under Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu would become one of the top five progressed states in the country.
He assured that the construction of 180-km outer ring road in Vijayawada would be taken up at a cost of Rs. 20,000 crore, adding that the new roads for national highways extending to 1,350-km would be developed in the state commencing from December 2016 onwards.
The four-lanning road project between Vijayawada-Machilipatnam also includes Benz Circle flyover being taken up by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) at a total capital cost of Rs. 1462.32 crore under the National Highways Development Programme.
Among the new projects for which he laid foundation stone also include Vijayawada-Bhaadrachalam-Jagadalpur national highway.
The Union Minister asked Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu to come to Delhi with detailed projects reports and land acquisition report for the newly announced projects.
