Gary Glitter accused of crawling into schoolgirl's bed in attempt to rape

Gary Glitter has been accused of creeping into a schoolgirl's bed and trying to rape her.

In the court hearing, prosecutor John Price QC said that the 70-year-old singer real name Paul Gadd, who was at the height of his fame at the time and faces 10 charges relating to alleged sex offences against three girls, denied the allegations dating from 1975 to 1980, which include 7 counts of indecent assault, one count of attempted rape, and 2 other sexual offences, the BBC reported.

The Southwark Crown Court were told that the girl could smell alcohol on his breath when he fell asleep after the encounter, and the victim locked herself in a nearby bathroom.

Price said that the former glam rock star had "behaved entirely as normal" after what was clearly an "unmistakable attempt to rape" as per the girl, and had given an Easter egg to her.

Price continued that though the victim did confide in her mother and friends, she went to police after more than 20 years after seeing that the singer had admitted child pornography charges in 1999, and felt that it offered her case a better chance to be believed against a famous man.

The court also heard Gadd had assaulted two young fans after his concerts, who had arrived at the event with their mothers but were persuaded to be left alone.

Judge Alistair McCreath has warned the jury, which included 7 women and 5 men, to keep the case outside of the courtroom or and forbade them to conduct their own research online.
