Geeta's father heads to Delhi for DNA test

Janardhan Mahato, who has been identified as the father of Geeta, (the mute woman who has spent over a decade in Pakistan) left for New Delhi on Tuesday for his DNA test.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had earlier clarified that Geeta would be handed over to her family only after athe DNA test.

"Geeta will be back in India soon. We have located her family. She will be handed over to them only after the DNA test," Swaraj said in a tweet.

MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup also said that three sets of photographs were sent to Geeta out of which she has identified one as possibly her parents.

He added that a conclusive proof of parentage could be only established through DNA testing.

Pakistan's Edhi Foundation who looked after her looked after she was found by police had said that Geeta hailed from Bihar state of India and Indian High Commissioner in Pakistan has located her parent in initial verification.
