General elections will be held in time and completed to formally establish the 16th Lok Sabha, said Chief Election Commissioner V.S. Sampath.
The significant enrollment of young voters in the electoral rolls has contributed hugely to the large vote r turnout in five states that went to polls recently , he added.
Speaking at the Brookings Institute in Washington, he said the consistent efforts of the Election Commission has ensured that electoral rolls has increased from 20 to 80 per cent in states like Delhi.
Sampath said the next general election would be held in multiple phases, and added that preparations have already started.
He said that he expected 780 million people to vote at over 800,000 polling booths, using over 1.18 million electronic voting machines.
The election process could begin in mid-March to elect 543 Lok Sabha members.
