Gertrude Weaver dies at 116 post 5-day reign as world's oldest person

Gertrude Weaver, who held onto her "oldest person" title for just five days, has passed away at a senior care facility in Arkansas.

Weaver, who gained the title on April 1, was born to sharecroppers on July 4, 1898 in Arkansas near the Texas border and worked as a domestic helper, the Mirror reported.

Officials at the nursing home said that Weaver, who said the key to her long life was to treat people kindly, enjoyed being read news articles about becoming the world's oldest person.

Kath Langley, administrator of the Silver Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center in Camden, Arkansas added that are devastated by her loss.

After Weaver, who was one of just four people alive with birth records showing they were born before 1900, Detroit-based, who was born on May 23, 1899, Jeralean Talley is now the world's oldest known person.
