Rane said Governor Mridula Sinha should have invited Congress first to form government

Goa Congress MLA Vishwajit Rane on Tuesday said held indecisiveness and breakdown of decision making process on part of the grand old party's central leadership for the present situation regarding government formation in the coastal state.

"We were unable to form the government as there was some delay in the decision making process in the Congress leadership. Some discussions were taking place due to which we remained indecisive," Rane told ANI.

Rane further said Governor Mridula Sinha should have invited the Congress first to form government and prove majority in the assembly.

"But indecisiveness on our part was a major setback," he said.

Congress leader Digvijay Singh-led delegation would be meeting the Governor today at 1.30 pm.

Singh said that they would express their displeasure to the Governor for not inviting the Congress Party first.

"She said that she would meet us at 1.30, we would have been happy had she met us earlier," Singh said.

"We wrote a letter to the Governor asking for invitation to form the government, but we were not invited. We were waiting till yesterday. We also informed her about the petition filed in the Supreme Court, but our main concern is that despite established norms, she did not invite the single largest party to from government without hearing us," he added.

Parrikar has claimed the support of 13 MLAs of the BJP, three MLAs of Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), three MLAs of Goa Forward Party (GFP) and two independent MLAs, thus having a total of 21 MLAs in the 40-member Assembly.

The Congress won 17 seats with the BJP finishing second in the state with 13 seats.
