The Government has approved a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh each to the kin of victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
The decision was taken by the Union Cabinet at a meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to reports, the amount is an additional compensation which will be given to the families of the riot victims apart from what they have so far received from the government and other agencies.
Over 3,000 victims of the 1984 violence, triggered by the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, are likely to benefit from the government's announcement.
