Gujarat to host 13th edition of Green Building Congress in November

The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) will host the 13th edition of the Green Building Congress 2015 between November 19 and 21 at the Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, the Forest and Environment Department of the Gujarat Government and the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT) will extend support for the event.

Dr Prem C. Jain, Chairman, IGBC, underlined that sustainable buildings have been the way of life in India for centuries. All the ancient structures were skillfully built, using locally available resources and incorporating features which are in harmony with nature. Going the greener way is intrinsically imbibed and is part of our ethos, he added.

The need of the hour is to design all the upcoming buildings and cities which are a blend of ancient practices and modern state-of-the-art technological innovations.

This will go a long way in promoting greener and healthier cities. Dr. Jain informed that, presentations and discussions at Green Building Congress 2015 would be focusing on how to take forward the National agenda of 'Green, Smart & Healthy Cities'. The event will also discuss on how to tap emerging growth opportunities, he added.

Green Building Congress 2015 aims to involve and engage all the stakeholders into the smart and green movement. National and international experts will share their thoughts & perspectives on the theme. This in turn will greatly enrich the delegates, said Dr Jain.

Arun Bhatia, Chairman, IGBC - Delhi Chapter, underlined that today stakeholders are convinced that green buildings make good business sense and in the process are embracing green buildings as a way of life. He added that, green building movement has enabled a wonderful market transformation in the country. It is estimated that by 2025, market potential for green building products & technologies would be about USD 300 Billion, he informed.

Green Building Congress 2015 will showcase over 100 innovative green technologies which are ecologically superior and economically viable. The event will act as a major catalyst for the Prime Minister's vision of developing 100 Smart Cities across India, highlighted Bhatia.

S Raghupathy, Executive Director, CII-Godrej GBC, said that, today, India with over 3 Billion Sq.ft of green building footprint is the second country in the world and has established itself as one of the global thought leaders in green buildings. Over the years, India has gained significant experience & technical expertise and is well poised to lead the global green building movement, he underlined.
