Slamming the Centre over the embroiling Gurmehar Kaur row, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar on Thursday condemned Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij's remark over the same, dubbing it as wrong and against the society.

"Reactions of some ministers in the Centre & the Haryana Government are totally wrong and against the society. It shows that their thinking is totally wrong," said Pawar while addressing a press conference here.

"The ideology of the government in itself is wrong and that is why such a situation has erupted," he added.

Vij on Thursday had branded people supporting Kargil braveheart Captain M. Singh's daughter Gurmehar Kaur as 'pro-Pakistan'.

"Those supporting Gurmehar Kaur are pro-Pakistan and therefore, such people should be thrown out of the country," Vij had said.

Kaur, who is a Delhi University student, posted a message against the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on social media that led to several groups and celebrities raising voices for and against her in equal numbers.

Clashes had erupted last week after the ABVP allegedly manhandled and thrashed students protesting the cancellation of an event at Ramjas College at which controversial JNU student Umar Khalid was scheduled to speak.
