A hacker turned informant Hector Xavier Monsegur, popularly known as Sabu, who was earlier sentenced for 20 years imprisonment has been now sentenced for just 7 months in prison and a year's supervision.
According to The BBC, Sabu was arrested in 2011 on hacking charges and faced a lengthy term, but instead agreed to work with US authorities to identify other hacking suspects.
Now a New York court has sentenced him to seven months, which he has already served, and a year's supervision.
Sabu was said to be the leader of a hacking group called LulzSec, known for several high-profile hacks including Sony Pictures Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), the report added.
After his arrest, the hacker agreed to carry on operating in the hacking community, under FBI supervision.
Authorities said that thanks to Monsegur high profile attacks had been prevented, and they were able to catch the biggest cybercriminal target in the world, Jeremy Hammond.
