In form England batsman Joe Root believes newly appointed head coach Trevor Bayliss will give his side an 'advantage' against Australia in the Ashes series.

The former Sri Lankan coach, who led the side to 2011 World Cup finals, was appointed head coach of the England team on Tuesday.

The BBC quoted Root, as saying that Bayliss had a great reputation and has been successful in world cricket.

He felt that Bayliss, who has been associated with nine players of the current Australian squad, would definitely give England an advantage during the Ashes.

Before accepting the coaching role, the Australian was coach of the New South Wales cricket team in Australia and the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.
