Heavy shelling by Pakistan hampering construction of bunkers along LoC, say locals

Heavy shelling by Pakistan in Nowshera sector along the Line of Control (LoC) has affected the construction of bunkers for sheltering civilians in the region.

Community bunkers are being constructed in all schools in Nowshera sector for the safety of students. Several houses have been damaged due to heavy shelling by Pakistan.

All schools located within 5 kilometres from the LoC remain closed due to the tense situation along the border.

On Saturday, the Centre had sanctioned additional 400 bunkers to be built in Poonch and Rajouri districts with 200 additional bunkers for each district. The government had directed that bunkers should be built within a month as per the prescribed specifications.

Ceasefire violations by Pakistan have increased in the last few days in the wake of tensions between India and Pakistan.

There were reports of Indian Army using heavy artillery fire and even anti-tank missiles to pound Pakistani positions across the LoC in retaliation to the shelling.
