Defending champions Real Madrid overcame a well-drilled Atletico Madrid side 1-0 in their quarterfinal second-leg tie to reach Champions League last-four on Wednesday night in the Bernabeu.
Following a goalless first-half, Real were revitalized after the sent off of Atletico's Arda Turan in the 75th minute.
Javier Hernandez, on-loan from Manchester United, broke the impasse as he netted the decisive goal for the holders from a Cristiano Ronaldo pass two minutes before the full-time.
Real manager Carlo Ancelotti heaped praise on the Mexican striker, saying that Hernandez played very well with a lot of desire, adding that he had suffered a lot in the season as he had hardly played, the BBC reported.
Ancelotti insisted that he never threw in the towel even in difficult moments and worked hard in training, adding that it paid off for him.
With the win, Real joined fellow La Liga heavyweights Barcelona, Germany's Bayern Munich and Serie A side Juventus, in the final four.
