India and the United States have co-chaired the joint Energy Dialogue on the critical importance of increasing energy security and access.

Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz and Minister of State with Independent Charge for Power, Coal, and Renewable Energy, Piyush Goyal co-chaired the U.S.-India Energy Dialogue, where they discussed ongoing work of five of the established working groups (power and energy efficiency, oil and gas, new technology and renewable energy, coal, and sustainable growth).

The co-chairs emphasized the strategic importance of energy in the U.S.-India relationship and discussed ways to further expand cooperation.

The two governments discussed ongoing work of five of the established working groups (power and energy efficiency, oil and gas, new technology and renewable energy, coal, and sustainable growth) and welcomed the formation of the new working group on research arm of PACE.

The two governments convened a series of meetings in September 2015 to review progress in these areas since President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Narendra Modi agreed in September 2014 to a new and enhanced strategic partnership on energy security, clean energy and climate change, including strengthening and expanding the highly successful U.S.-India Partnership to Advance Clean Energy (PACE).

The two sides welcomed the expansion of PACE to include a new track on smart grids and energy storage under the Joint Clean Energy Research Development Center.

The two sides launched Greening the Grid, a $30 million, five-year initiative to scale up renewable energy integration into India's power grid.
