Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday condoled the demise of eminent cartoonist R.K. Laxman, saying the country will miss a legend whose demise leaves a major void in our lives.
"India will miss you RK Laxman. We are grateful to you for adding the much needed humour in our lives and always bringing smiles on our faces," tweeted PM Modi.
"My condolences to the family and countless well-wishers of a legend whose demise leaves a major void in our lives. RIP RK Laxman," he added.
Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar also paid his tribute to the popular cartoonist, who he said created a benchmark with his unparalleled work.
"Very saddening news. He was a great artist who created benchmark with his unparalleled work. We deeply mourn his death. He will always remain an inspiring force for all of us," said Javadekar.
Creator of the iconic character "The Common Man", cartoonist R K Laxman passed away in a Pune hospital today.
The 94-year-old was on a mechanical ventilator last week with his health taking a turn for the worse on Sunday, according to reports.
His work was believed to hold a mirror to the society by creating satire targeting politicians for many decades.
