Unidentified miscreants hurled a powerful grenade at a house in Uripok in Manipur recently and killed two people.
On June 28, unidentified miscreants threw a grenade at a house in Uripok Tourangbam Leikai in Manipur. Two masons were killed and five others were injured. The deceased have been identified as 28-year-old Rohit Kumar Das and 24-year-old Ranjan Mahato, both natives of Begu Sarai in Bihar.
The residents are shocked over this incident.
"We thought it was a gas cylinder explosion but later we came to know that it was a bomb blast. We are shocked as there was no demand or threat from any underground outfit. We are clueless. I am sad as two people were killed and some were injured. I want to know the motive behind the attack," said Potia Devi, a local resident.
"We don't have any enmity with anyone. We just do our work to earn a livelihood. One of the injured people told that he saw someone running off and then the bomb exploded and he got injured. I just came back this morning and saw that my house was filled with blood," added Shivananda, a relative of the deceased.
Condemning the attack, womenfolk of the area staged a sit-in protest and appealed to the miscreants to shun violence.
No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility for the incident.
"I am saddened by the incident. It might have happened with a Manipuri or non-Manipuri, but I condemn this incident. I went to see them at hospital and it was really sad," said Sunita Devi, a protestor.
"In my opinion, such incidents are cruel acts. The same incident had happened earlier thrice in Uripok Leikai. I appeal to the miscreants not to repeat such acts in the future," she added.
According to official sources, about 15 non-Manipuri persons have been killed by unidentified persons in grenade explosions in the past two years.
