Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu And Kashmir Nirmal Singh on Friday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed various issues including cross border shelling and internal security in the state.

In the meeting, the Deputy Chief Minister also apprised the Prime Minister about the steps being taken by the state government for sustainment of peace in the Valley.

Issues pertaining to refugees and conduct of annual Amarnath Yatra also came under discussion.

The Deputy Chief Minister also sought a special recruitment drive for central security forces in the hilly and border areas of the state.

Earlier in the day, Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N. Vohra met Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi.

However, the reason of the meeting is not known as yet, but it is believed that the Governor apprised the Home Minister about the security scenario of ongoing Amarnath Yatra, which recently came under terrorist attack.

Governor of Jammu and Kashmir is ex-officio Chairman of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board.

Earlier this week, Vohra had also met state Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to discuss law and order and security situation in the Kashmir Valley.

Mufti and Governor Vohra had wide ranging discussions, which particularly focused on the maintenance of law and order, internal security, pace of tourist arrivals in the valley.

They also discussed progress of the Amarnath Yatra, timely implementation of important schemes and projects, functioning of the universities, need for critical watch on the emergence of new educational institutions and the steps required to be taken to protect the interests of school, college and university students.
