Using the bull taming sport of Jallikattu as a weapon to launch a verbal attack against the Centre, All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen or (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi said India is a land of many cultures and not just one, and therefore, Uniform Civil Code (UCC) cannot be applied coercively.
"#Jallikattuprotest Lesson for Hindutva forces, Uniform Civil Code cannot be "imposed" this nation cannot have one CULTURE we celebrate all," Owaisi tweeted.
Tamil Nadu is cur conflict over Jallikattu.
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) working president M.K. Stalin was taken into preventive custody for halting a train at Chennai's Mambalam Railway Station under the 'Rail Roko Agitation.'
The protests at Marina Beach have entered the fourth day, with protesters not ready to end the agitation till the ordinance on Jallikattu is passed.
However, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam earlier today urged the protesters to end their protest while announcing that a draft of ordinance has been sent to the Home Ministry, adding that it would be passed in one-two days.
Jallikattu remains stalled since May 2014 due to a ban imposed by the Supreme Court, which is due to deliver its verdict on a related case that has been reserved earlier.
The widespread pro-Jallikattu protests have lead to charges and counter-charges by political parties, even as the call for legal remedies to revive the bull-taming game is getting louder.
