In a huge step towards building up an ecosystem of entrepreneurship in the state of Mizoram, 'Mizoram Kailawn 2018- the first-ever business plan competition and entrepreneur summit was organised here.
Attended by a host of experienced entrepreneurs from across the state as well as other parts of the Northeast region, the summit acted as a platform for entrepreneurs to come up with innovative ideas and new business ventures.
The summit showcased business plans and ideas which covered various sectors from agriculture to construction, skill building to handicrafts, and tourism to recycling to name a few. It also generated good employment opportunities for the entrepreneurs of the state.
Realising the need to reverse the challenges and to improve the socio-economic outcome of the state, the Government of Mizoram has adopted a New Development Policy in 2016 (NEDP) to address the challenges and leverage the opportunities of the state.
One such focus area under the NEDP programme is promoting entrepreneurship in the state and the region as a whole.
Official, Mizoram State Entrepreneurship Development Monitoring Committee (MEDMOC) said, "This programme is meant for grooming the budding entrepreneurs of Mizoram. IIM Kolkata will be imparting some grooming and mentoring to the entrepreneurs of Mizoram. We hope that this programme will provide a lot of benefits to the people of Mizoram especially the young entrepreneurs. We hope that in future also, it will have a good implication in building entrepreneurship ecosystem here."
The summit also showcased an interesting stall displaying varieties of paper craft materials carved out by a young group of entrepreneurs attracted a number of students.
Planning Secretary, C Vanlalramsangma said, "Mizoram Kaiwlan is one of the components out of 11 components of Entrepreneurship Govt Scheme being implemented by Mizoram Government. The main objective is to encourage ideas to put into practice for gainful business ventures. We encourage all the Mizo youths in Mizoram to participate in this business plan competition.This year we have 330 entries for the summit for the business plan.
