Virat Kohli smashed his 24th ODI century to guide India to a target of 296 runs against Australia in the third match here at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday.

After being asked to bat first, India scored 295 for the loss of six wickets, thanks to Kohli for his brilliant 117 runs off 177 balls.

Out-of form opener Shikhar Dhawan, who got dismissed for cheaply nine and six runs in the first two ODIs, also managed to contribute significant 68 runs before being dismissed by John Hastings.

Earlier, Kohli became quickest batsman to reach 24th ODI century. He also became the fastest batsman to reach 7000 ODI runs in 161 innings, surpassing South Africa star AB de Villiers' record of 166 innings.
