Lalit Modi row: Kharge to take up matter in Parliament

Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to break his silence over the Lalit Modi row and said that he would be taking up the matter in the parliament soon.

Kharge said, "We'll take it up in Parliament as these are too important issue. We will compel them to answer, particularly the Prime Minister who is silent when all other people are speaking.

Lalit Modi himself has spoken, denying the allegations over Sushma Swaraj. Vijay Raje Scindia spoke one or two words, but the man who is captain of their team is not speaking. What is the reason for that, I don't know", he added.

Kharge pointed out that the Prime Minister should have said something on such an issue in clarification.

"May be they are banking upon their brute majority in the Parliament. We will fight in the monsoon session and will try to also consult other political parties," he added.

In more trouble for the BJP, which has been defending External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, despite opposition demands that she be sacked for helping Lalit Modi, the former IPL boss has claimed that Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje secretly supported his immigration plea in Britain.

According to reports, the Congress had said that the only way for the BJP-led government at the Centre to save the monsoon session was to seek resignations of Swaraj and Vasundhara Raje.

The monsoon session of the Parliament is important for the government

with several bills, including Goods and Services Tax (GST), lined up

for clearance by the house.
