Liverpool is eyeing Valencia CF player Roberto Soldado as their top target to replace controversial striker Luis Suarez as he edges closer to a move to Arsenal.
According to the Mirror, although Liverpool is in a fight with Tottenham Hotspur for the 26 million-pound worth Soldado, they are being helped by Spurs' reluctance so far to meet his 26 million-pound asking price.
The report further said that although Spurs sent their technical director Franco Baldini to Spain for talks over a 22 million-pound bid, the deal was rejected as financially stricken Valencia want a deal done by August 3 for tax reasons.
Meanwhile, the report said that the furious Uruguayan has told the Anfield giants that he wants his future resolved in the next 48 hours after the club tried to block a purported 40 million-pound move to the Gunners during face-to-face talks with Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, who is sticking to his 50 million-pound valuation.
According to the report, the player is allowed to conduct talks with Arsenal and his advisers may consult lawyers if the dispute over his contract turns ugly even though they have expressed surprise over his desire to move to another Premier League club after his claims that he wanted to leave England earlier in the season.
