Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday announced a state funeral with full honours for former deputy chief minister R R Patil, adding that the demise of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader is a setback to the state.
"A true man of politics has left us today, it is a setback for entire Maharashtra. He will be given a state funeral, I will be present there," Fadnavis said.
Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and NCP chief Sharad Pawar also echoed similar views and said that Maharashtra has lost one of the finest administrators.
"This is a great loss for the NCP and the state of Maharashtra. The state has lost one of the finest administrator at such an early age," Pawar said.
Earlier in the day, RR Patil passed away at the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai due to multiple organ failure.
According to reports, the 57-year-old was suffering from oral cancer and was receiving regular chemotherapy for the same.
